A letter from my dad!

I am not sure if I should be using this blog necessarily as a scrapbook but my dad sent me this email today from work and I liked it alot. I was with my mom at the waterpark when he sent it but when I got home (exhausted), this is what I was greeted with....

Hi Saxon.

Hope you are doing well. Thought I would just write you a short note to tell you how special you are.

Life for your mum and me has changed a lot since you came along, and every single change has been for the better. We love having you in our life because you seen to brighten up virtually every day. I even find myself peeking into you room late at night to watch you sleep.

Anyway, I am not very good on the sentimental stuff (I wonder whether you will be like me or take more after your mum), but hope you are enjoying your day.

Love You.

Dad (aka Mr. Mimmee)

Dad, I love you too. I especially like seeing you peek over the crib to look at me at night. You think I can't see you but I do.

My letter to Grandma in England

This is the email that I sent to my Grandma in England. My dad said that he thought I was so eloquent about my recent adventures that I should post it on my blog. Of course, my dad thinks that pretty much everything I do is brilliant!

Hello Grandma,

I must give you and grandad a big thank you for the walker. I have decided that I like it even BETTER than the jumperoo because now I can herd poodles! I am tearing around the house after them until they retreat onto carpet (which is quite difficult to propel the walker on--though I try) or furniture. I go backwards, forwards and I can even corner the poodles when I am feeling particularly well rested after a nap. On the whole, the walker has opened up a whole new world of possibilities...I get into the trash, pull on cords, torment the poodles, trip my parents, pull down tea towels and generally cause havoc in my wake...I LOVE IT!

I am now eating solid food (well, pureed food) twice a day and I have discovered the joys of bananas! My dad usually feeds me my evening meal and last week, I pitched my first absolutely screaming fit when he tried to feed me peas. I do not like them and I made it extremely clear to him how insulted I was when I spit them right back onto him. I think he got the message. Since then, I have been given much better fare...bananas, peaches, mangos, blueberries. Did I mention that I like fruit?

My mom and I have been going to the playground everyday so that I can watch the kids and ride in the swings. There is a water fountain that I like to put my feet into also when it is hot. I just can't wait until I can run around like those other kids...it looks like lots of fun. For now, I like to just watch them play and scream...it is better than TV.

On Saturday, mom, dad and I went to get my passport. Apparently, there is a huge delay in getting a passport because so many people need them now to travel to Canada and the Carribean (or so my mom said) so we are hoping that we will get it soon but we are afraid that it might take a few MONTHS!!! In any case, I am very excited to visit you in England and I hope that I will be able to some time in the late Summer or early Fall.

My mom has been helping me put together a blog so that you can follow my adventures in Brooklyn. She has just started learning how to build a webpage so it is a bit rough but we thought you might enjoy checking it periodically to see how I am doing. You can find me at:

http://www.saxontology.blogspot.com/

I am glad that you are making me some more jumpers. It is very warm here now but I know that I will get lots of use from them in the Winter when I will need insulation to travel around in my stroller! Did you know that I now wear clothing for 12 month old babies? Everyone says that I am such a big boy but I think that I am just about the same size as my dad was when he was 7 months old...21 lbs. 6 oz. I am starting to get more hair now (no more comb over) and it is a light brown color. I don't think that I will be blonde like my dad but my hair is much, much lighter than either mom or dad's hair. Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you, I have discovered these wonderful things at the ends of my hands called fingers! They wiggle and move and can poke and grab...are you famiiar with them? Well, I am absolutely in love with them and I often just find myself mesmorized by them as they bend and wiggle.

On the whole, I am doing quite well. I am sure you will be VERY IMPRESSED with my walker skills by the next time you see me. Do you know of any walker speed races that I might enter...I could be a contender! Hope that grandad doesn't hurt himself building his very large deck on the back...sounds like it might have lots of possibilities as a walker speedway! Say hello to Uncle Tim, Aunt Rebecca and Cousin Ulla. How do you think Ulla will feel about being herded by a baby walker? Hummmmm.

Lots of love, Saxon

Russian Exotica!

Here I am among the Russkies at Brighton Beach with my dad, mom, Uncle Steve and Aunt Kristine! We sat on the boardwalk on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed some Russian cuisine!

I helped my dad choose some of his favorites from the menu--borscht, eggplant caviar, pickles and, of course, vodka! (He said that I wasn't allowed any because I am too young...even by British standards!)

I helped my mom eat....well, I am honestly not sure what that is....

Aunt Kristine and I look out at the ocean and contemplate far away thoughts....

Did I mention that I do not like to be ignored and left in my stroller to amuse myself? I prefer to impress you with my engaging conversational skills. Here, I am addressing directly the obvious superiority of "lalalala" over "babababa".

Hello Uncle Steve and Aunt Kristine! (I like the big man,he makes me laugh.)

And here I am again (after all, this is MY blog) sitting in my stroller looking only mildly amused after the Russian eating/drinking festival. While walking on the boardwalk, I noticed a few mermaids! Do not fear, dear reader, I was not having a milk induced baby hallucination. My mom told me something about a mermaid parade nearby at Coney Island (but to be honest, I wasn't listening closely, that damn blue elephant rattle can be so distracting.) After wandering around for a while, it was time to load up into the Toyota so mom could drive all of us home. I was sooooooo tired when we got home, I skipped my bath, my meal and my nighttime story and went directly to bed....sort of....okay, okay, I admit it, I had a little 'I am so exhausted I am going to freak out' scream session and THEN I fell asleep. What do you expect? I am a baby after all!

Weekend Update

Hello everyone!

Sorry to not have updated my adventures lately. I have had some difficulties acquiring photos to accompany the text. (Uncle Brooke has promised to email me photos as soon as he gets back from vacation.)

Last weekend, I went hiking for Father's Day with my mom, dad and Uncle Brooke in Connecticut. My dad carried me in a carrier on my back and my mom carried my food supply on her front. When we got to the top of the appropriately named "Prospect Mountain" we sat down, rested and had a snack. Then we walked down the mountain and stopped by a waterfall. I don't particularly remember the descent very well because I crashed out after my snack on the summit. Mom and Dad said it was lovely. I also spent some of my Father's Day weekend with my grandma and grandpa in Pawling and Aunt Kate and Sarah were there too. I like to watch Sarah run around and play. She makes me laugh.

Today, we are going to visit one of my dad's favorite places in Brooklyn....Brighton Beach. I will keep you posted on how it goes!

G Squared Visits Me

I woke up this morning and guess what? Grandma Gwen (G Squared) was in my bedroom! She came to Brooklyn on the train to take care of me while my mom went to an appointment. And, quite frankly, was I happy to see a new face in the mix! I mean, mom is okay but the woman can get a little tedious with her constant chit chat and always pushing the nap agenda. Does she own undisclosed shares in a napping corporation or something? Anyway, G Squared came over and we just hung out at my place...a little jumperoo, some Nickelodeon, a bottle of milk. You know the routine. Very low key. Very baby friendly. Just my style. Chit chat mama shows up just as I have relaxed for a little midday snooze...typical. Of course, then I can't sleep so I suggest that we all go for sandwiches and coffee (none for me of course, my solids are pureed and definitely no caffeine). Afterwards, G Squared hits the G train for home. Once again, its me and mom at home with the geriatric poodle crew. I have some new plastic stacking cups. I really enjoy chucking them all over the apartment and watching my mom pick them up for me. She is such a well trained mommy!

Baby Cuisine du Jour

Ooh La La. I am now eating solid food (at least on a part time basis). So far, I have eaten avocados, bananas, apples, carrots, kale and broccoli. Broccoli wasn't so successful--it gave me a fiery little rash on my face, neck and chest. So, mom said "no more broccoli" which I am totally happy about because, quite frankly, I didn't really like it. On the other hand, I am pretty much willing to eat anything mixed with bananas (or as we refer to it in my household--baby crack). And the poodles are totally happy that I am eating solid food because, well, they love to help with clean-up! As for me, they have started to call me "mr. seconds" because I like seconds and sometimes, even thirds! But don't you be fooled into thinking that solid food will get me to sleep through the night...oh, ho no no no...I am still firmly of the opinion that sleep is overrated. I mean, what else is a mom for but room service any time of the night?

Hello Digital World

Hi Everyone,

Some call me the Saxonator. Others refer to me as Saxonipitent. I also answer to Saxonerous, Saxongoing and, my personal favorite, Saxonomatopoeia. Perhaps, however, you should call me Saxonline because I am officially digital and only 6 months old!

I know that many of you, dear readers, are probably quite impressed with my dexterity and ask, how do you type from a Jumperoo? The answer is, you don't. When typing, I always prefer the perspective that my baby walker gives. In fact, I am simultaneously posting and chasing poodles as we speak! In any case, I hope that this is the beginning of a series of posts about me, my world and my very important work as a baby navigating life in Brooklyn.
